When communities can’t protect themselves,
it’s time to change the Constitution...

CLICK HERE! Pennsylvania Constitutional Amendment for the Right of Local Community Self-Government
Today, communities across the country are being told that they don’t have the right to make critical decisions for themselves. They’re told they cannot say “no” to fracking, factory farming, GMO food labeling, sewage sludge, water contamination, and more. They’re told they cannot say “yes” to sustainable food or energy systems.

Through the Community Rights Movement, communities are working to create a structure of law and government of the people, by the people, and for the people. That structure recognizes and protects the inalienable rights of natural and human communities.

Community Rights include Rights of Nature, such as the right to clean air, pure water, and healthy soil; worker rights, such as the right to living wages and equal pay for equal work; rights of nature, such as the right of ecosystems to flourish and evolve; and democratic rights, such as the right of local community self-government, and the right to free and fair elections.

The PA Constitution

Our own constitution is being used as a weapon against us. Click here for our proposed constitutional amendments to return power to We the People.

The
Alarm

The history of harmful industrial activities being forced upon PA communities goes back generations. We're initiating a statewide call to action.

Municipal Officials

When faced with a threat to their community's health and safety, municipal officials in Pennsylvania often find themselves feeling like their hands are tied. But municipal officials are fighting back. Click here for one story.

How does a community lose its voice?

  • State and Federal Preemption – Current law allows large corporations to force harmful activities into communities – despite community opposition.
  • Corporate Privilege – Our structure of law puts corporate decision-making above community decision-making. Corporations have constitutional “rights" and wield these “rights” against communities to eliminate local efforts to prevent industry plans that threaten to negatively impact these communites and nature.
  • The Regulatory Fallacy – Agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Labor Relations Board, and the Minerals Management Agency do not actually protect us. Instead, they permit and make legal the harm that is inflicted on our communities.
  • Nature as Property – Our legal system grants landowners the right to damage the environment, even though the impact is carried by the entire community.

                           How do we change this?
By enforcing our right to say “no.”
